Add a Games toque and scarf to your profile pic, check out Games results on your smartphone, or tag your tweets. The Halifax 2011 Canada Games Host Society today, Feb. 7, unveiled more tools for fans to get in the Games online. As of today, fans accessing the Games website on a mobile device will be redirected to a mobile application where the user will be more easily able to access medal standings, results and schedules. The application was built specifically for iPhone, Blackberry, and Android devices. The Official 2011 Games Facebook application is also available online. Fans of the Games can add one of several Games-branded images to profile photos in support of the Games. The mobile application was created and developed by Nova Scotia companies Norex and Sheepdog, while the facebook application was designed and produced by LXI Software Solutions of Halifax. The 2011 Canada Games will also be the first Games to engage roving social media reporters to showcase the event over a number of different online applications. This volunteer “blog squad” will be in the stands and on the ground, covering the action live and sharing their unique experiences before, during and after Games events. Spectators, fans, and participants are encouraged to tag tweets, photos and videos with the official Games hashtag #2011canadagames, or with sport/discipline specific tags all listed online at www.canadagames2011.ca/live . As tweets, posts, photos and video clips are uploaded and tagged, they will be simultaneously posted on social media feeds on Canada Games sport web pages and the “live” page. Halifax 2011 Canada Games will be the largest multi-sport event held in Nova Scotia and Halifax’s first Canada Winter Games.
