Dimitar Berbatov’s Premier League predictions including Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd & Liverpool

I’m not 100% confident that it will happen because Liverpool are producing football like no other team at the moment and they are the number one team for me purely for the passion they have, the motivation, the way they play for each other and you can sense that this is their season. But, if anyone is going to come up with a way to beat them it’s Mourinho, it doesn’t matter how.Dimitar’s prediction: 3-2Bournemouth vs Watford Ancelotti’s side will be reeling from their defeat to Liverpool (Picture: Getty) I was expecting Duncan Ferguson to continue with the work he was doing, he gave them that aggression that they were lacking, and I didn’t see Ancelotti coming in to  manage them, but it’s a great result for Everton. He’s one of the most successful coaches of our time, even though it is still early in his time there I think we are seeing a positive change and they should beat Brighton at Goodison.Dimitar’s prediction: 1-0Leicester vs Southampton Chelsea have struggled at home this term (Picture: Getty)Chelsea need to win this one, their form has been a bit hit and miss recently, so they need to get back into that rhythm again and be consistent. I don’t think they should allow themselves any more slip ups, Burnley could prove tricky but I believe Lampard’s team will have enough.Dimitar’s prediction: 1-2Everton vs Brighton United are without a win in three matches (Picture: Getty)If United play like they did in the first half against City then they will lose for sure. Hopefully they have taken some lessons from that, they are playing at Old Trafford and they are playing Norwich, who are bottom of the table. There can be no more excuses from United and they need to win this game.Dimitar’s prediction: 2-0Wolves vs Newcastle Advertisement Dimitar Berbatov’s Premier League predictions including Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd & Liverpool Leicester striked late to earn a draw against Villa on Wednesday (Picture: Getty)Leicester are unbelievable, they really are. They’ve had a couple of injuries and they have also rested a few players but they still produced the goods and they’re still winning, they’re in great shape and they in a great moment and I think that run will continue against Southampton.Dimitar’s prediction: 3-1Man United vs Norwich Wolves are looking to get back to winning ways (Picture: Getty) I’m going to go for Wolves for this one, I really like the way they play and I like the players they have. I used to play Moutinho at Monaco, I like him a lot and I think he is pulling the strings for the team in the centre of the midfield. They also have Traore who is destroying defenders with his speed and stamina. They are a solid team.Dimitar’s prediction: 2-0Tottenham vs Liverpool Pictures: REX/METRO.CO.UKThe Premier League takes centre stage again this weekend after the Carabao Cup provided the entertainment in midweek.Manchester City battered rivals Manchester United to put on foot in the Wembley final, while Aston Villa earned a morale-boosting draw against Leicester.Dean Smith’s side will have to be at their best again on Sunday when they take on Pep Guardiola’s side, while the pick of the fixtures comes on Saturday evening when Tottenham host leaders Liverpool in north London.Betfair Ambassador Dimitar Bebatov reviews the action exclusively for Metro.co.uk…ADVERTISEMENTCrystal Palace vs Arsenal Arteta is looking to continue his bright start (Picture: Getty)It’s early days for Arteta but the team looks inspired and they are fighting for each other. They look more confident and happy working with them. They are producing new things and the players believe in what he is doing so I can see them getting the win at PalaceAdvertisementAdvertisementDimitar’s prediction: 1-2Chelsea vs Burnley Man City destroyed rivals Man Utd on Tuesday (Picture: Getty) It’s easy to say that City will take the win, and they probably will. They are the favourites but I am happy to see someone upsetting the big teams, even though I used to play for the big teams, I want to see someone really test City and make things difficult for them, but I think they will have too much for Villa on this occasion.Dimitar’s prediction: 1-4MORE: Manchester United open talks with Sporting Lisbon for Bruno Fernandes Advertisementlast_img read more

Sun as a Star: How Does It Compare?

first_imgNot too many years ago, our sun was described as a common, ordinary star.  More recently, the Type G2 Dwarf Main-Sequence class, of which Ol Sol is a member, is believed to comprise only 5% of all stars.  An important paper in Astrophysical Journal is now revealing that the sun is special within its class: it is unusually quiet and steady.    O. R. White, L. Wallace, and W. Livingston have just published results of a 32-year study of sunlight at the McMath Solar Observatory at Kitt Peak, Arizona.1  Even thought 32 years represents a third of a century, and half a percent of recorded history, it is rare to have a continuous data set for such a long period.  Now ready to retire from this long experiment, they discussed what they found.  Most of the paper describes details of particular spectral lines and how they vary with the 11-year solar cycle: doubly-ionized calcium lines, for instance, show clear oscillations.  Some spectral lines, from deeper within the sun’s photosphere (visible “surface”), show almost no variation.  They conclude that the deeper regions of the sun are immune from being heated by the cyclic rise and fall of magnetic disturbances.  This means the sun’s energy output is remarkably stable.    How our sun compares with other stars was discussed briefly.  “Some of our results,” they said, “… will be of interest to stellar astronomers.” It is again of interest in a stellar context to compare our mean H + K index values for the center disk with that of solar-type stars, particularly stars that may be considered Maunder-minimum candidates.2  Our mean center disk value could be indicative of the values to expect in especially quiescent stars, or even in the Sun during prolonged episodes of relatively reduced activity, as appears to have occurred during the Maunder minimum period.Astrophysicist M. S. Giampapa compared the integrated results with comparable stars.  The amount of variation in solar output was “about 10% less than the seasonal mean values, as measured over several seasons of observation, for even the most quiet solar-type stars,” he wrote.  “In any event, our mean center disk value in comparison with stellar observations appears to be representative of ‘immaculate photospheres,’ with little in the way of magnetic-field-related nonradiative heating.”3    In plain English, this means our sun is quiet and well behaved.  The cycles of magnetic energy that cause sunspots and flares somehow escape through the photosphere without heating the surface, resulting in a “solar constant” of energy output – constant, that is, compared with other G2 stars.  The discussion summarizes the finding: “Converted to stellar S [a normalized spectral measurement for all stars], the center disk Sun resides at a position of minimum activity, as found for the most quiescent solar-type stars.”    This has been a career-long project for the researchers.  “In summary, what have 30 years of spectral observations told us about the physical Sun?”  The solar constant varies only 0.06% both on short and long terms.  “That behavior has basically continued over the entire observational period, with no indication of cycle modulation or secular change.  We conclude that the basal quiet photosphere is constant in temperature within our observational error,” they said.1O. R. White, L. Wallace, W. Livingston, and M. S. Giampapa, “Sun-as-a-Star Spectrum Variations 1974-2006,” Astrophysical Journal, 657:1137-1149, 2007 March 10, 2007.2The Maunder Minimum was an unusual period of almost no sunspots from 1645-1715.  Maunder-minimum candidate stars would be those in a similar quiescent state.  Since telescopes were first trained on the sun, sunspot number has risen and fallen in a familiar 11-year cycle except for that 70-year period.  (There is a 22-year period superimposed on the 11-year cycle in which the polarity of the magnetic field reverses.)3Most of the sun’s heat comes from radiation.  An example of non-radiative heating would be the excitation of the sun’s photosphere from magnetic energy.  This apparently is not happening on the sun; the magnetic energy escapes between the granules.Congratulations to this team for their perseverance and steadfastness in achieving one of the longest data-gathering experiments in astrophysics.  In science, there is no substitute for data.  Speculation is cheap.  Carl Sagan used to yarn on about how ordinary is our neighborhood in the universe: “We live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star, lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe,” la-de-da-de-da-zzz.  Sounds so scientific till you look at the details.  Yes, there are other solar-type stars, but one in this class that is this quiet and constant now appears to be a rarity.  Combine that with all the other factors that make our world habitable, and it really does look more and more like we live on a Privileged Planet.(Visited 13 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

Track-Based Tricks for Dialogue in Premiere Pro

first_imgIn Premiere Pro CS6, I previously used the Dynamics effect to level out minor audio levels, but the new Multiband Compressor in Premiere CC is way better and way easier. I generally add this effect to the Master Channel as an easy way to compress everything to the rough neighborhood I want my audio in – averaging (not peaking) at around –12 dB.The default preset – Broadcast – does a pretty good job with one minor adjustment that you don’t have to even open the effect UI to get to: Drop the “Output Gain” to –9bB. That seems to keep things right around the range I want, as long as the incoming signal isn’t too loud or too quiet. Track-based effects in Premiere Pro are incredibly powerful and can make taking care of some audio issues super easy!Track-based mixing and effects have become my go-to way of dealing with audio in Premiere Pro. After encountering audio sources that have varied widely in level, quality, characteristics, etc., I’ve compiled a few quick, easy tools for simple dialogue sweetening and fixing in Premiere using track effects. You’ll get way more control and power out of a program like Audition, or even some of the more advanced plugins and settings in Premiere’s track effects, but these are easy ways to get something good quickly.First, let’s take a look at how you get to your track effects (if you don’t already know). In the track mixer, click the disclosure triangle in the top-left corner. The top half of what appears are “slots” where you can add effects. Just click on the triangle on the right of each slot and you get a drop down of effects you can add. Once you’ve added an effect, you can open up its settings and UI (if it has one) by double-clicking it’s name. One specific type of noise I run into every now and then is 50/60 Hz hum, which is caused by electrical interference of some sort. The DeHummer filter in Premiere has a preset just for these kinds of hums…and it works great. Just select the appropriate hum and choose how many “harmonics” you need to get the job done with the least amount of effect on your source audio.Track-based mixing and effects have become such a part of my Premiere Pro workflow that I pretty much never touch clip-based mixing or effects if I can help it. In my experience, I’ve also found them to be much more stable in Premiere. I hope you have the same kind of success with track-based effects that I have. If any of you audio pros have tips or suggestions, please leave them in the comments! Master Multiband Compressor in Premiere Procenter_img Premiere actually has a decent track-based DeNoiser built-in. For audio that was recorded too low and boosted, some air conditioner or appliance noise, etc., the DeNoiser effect can work some pretty good magic. All you have to do is apply the effect to the track and set how much to reduce the noise.Premiere Pro analyzes the track to automatically detect the noise it needs to remove. However, because it is a real-time effect, it analyzes from the beginning of the track. This means that it works best when you have some room tone or a silent sample of the noise at the beginning of the track. You can even have the volume of that part of the track all the way down (using the track keyframes, not the clip keyframes) and it will still pick up the noise you want removed. While it can automatically adjust to different noise samples, it takes it a second or so to adjust to the new noise, so it’s best to put audio with different noise types on different tracks.Premiere Pro DeHummer Premiere Pro DeNoiserlast_img read more
