Captain Marvel is a long ways away, and Avengers 4 is even further. It’s a long hiatus between movies that MCU fans haven’t experienced in years. Some people worry that we’ll grow tired of Marvel movies if the studio keeps pumping them out at the pace they had been. Right now though, the wait to see what happens next is almost painful. So what do Marvel fans do? Speculate endlessly and make very cool art. This fandom’s the best.Redditor The DocofWho put together a fan-made poster that shows what the Marvel Cinematic Universe will likely look like once Avengers 4 is said and done. As much as we have no idea what will happen in that movie, Phase 4 of the MCU is an even bigger mystery. All we really have is a list of characters we’re pretty sure will survive to make more movies. Turns out that’s enough to make a pretty awesome poster. Even if there’s at least one character here who we’re pretty sure won’t survive.(via Reddit/TheDocofWho)The presence of, say Iron Man aside, it’s a good-looking poster. Black Widow could still be a part of it because she has her own solo movie in the works. Not so sure about Hawkeye, but if Black Widow’s coming back after Avengers 4, there’s no reason he couldn’t either. I also like that this poster implies that Vision won’t stay dead. I really, really want that to be the case. Also, don’t think we didn’t notice Bucky Barnes in that Captain America suit. That’s a definite possibility, and I’m pretty sure I know someone who’d love to see Sebastian Stan put on Cap’s suit. The real star of the poster is, of course, Captain Marvel. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly showing us the first images of the hero in costume earlier this week, she was able to take the front-and-center position on this fan-poster. And she looks so cool here. If anything, this is getting me more excited for Captain Marvel than anything post-Avengers 4. Seriously good work, The DocofWho.We’ll see how close this is to the actual Phase 4 after Avengers 4 premieres May 3, 2019.Spider-Man: Homecoming (Photo: Screenshot via YouTube)The MCU fandom doesn’t just make cool art, though. It also comes up with some eerily plausible theories. The latest one concerns Spider-Man: Far From Home, the second MCU Spidey solo movie. The theory says the upcoming sequel is actually going to be a prequel to Avengers: Infinity War. The theory comes from It states that even though Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has said the sequel picks up minutes after Avengers 4, that could be something of a misleading statement. It could pick up after Dr. Strange (presumably) resets time in Avengers 4.The theory stems from set photos of Nick Fury and Maria Hill in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Remember, they were in the credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War. They drove through a chaotic street before disintegrating after Thanos’ snap. With Spider-Man coming out in the summer of 2019, Marvel will likely have to start marketing the movie before Avengers 4 comes out. Or at least, right around the same time. So how will they do that without spoiling potential resurrections? By resetting time so this movie takes place both after Avengers 4 and before Infinity War. This is some galaxy brain stuff here. It would also fit with a line Peter Parker has in Infinity War. “I should have stayed on that bus.” Maybe Doctor Strange makes it so he does. It’s a cool theory, and it totally feels like something the MCU would do. We’ll see for sure when Spider-Man: Far From Home premieres July 5, 2019.Just as interesting as what could be is learning what could have been. Going back and watching Captain America: The First Avenger, it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Hugo Weaving playing The Red Skull in that movie. Even if a completely different actor played the character in Infinity War. The villain’s MCU look is so iconic now, it’s super weird to see how different he was originally going to look. Concept Artist Charlie Wen shared an early sketch of the Red Skull that looks to be a whole other take on the character. It’s certainly a unique take on the character. Wen says he pushed with early versions of his concept art, and this is the result. I love his description of this drawing as “Like Wacky Loki.” It’s certainly accurate. Wen also notes that Red Skulls goals in the movie inspired him to draw him like some kind of alien, and honestly? It kind of fits. I’m glad we got Weaving’s performance in Captain America: The First Avenger, but I don’t think I would have minded a Red Skull that was a little closer to this concept art. It’s certainly creepier than the final product. Even if it might have spoiled the reveal of his true face in the movie.Meanwhile, movies aren’t the only part of the MCU worth watching out for. Iron Fist Season Two premiered on Netflix this weekend, and it’s a huge step up from Season One. An even bigger surprise though, is that it secretly contains a teaser for Season Three of Daredevil. When you reach the final 10th episode of the new season of Iron Fist, keep watching. Like any good MCU project, it has a post-credits scene. You’ll see a shadowy figure sitting in a confession booth. Then, you’ll hear a familiar voice. “I once believed that justice could be found in a court of law, and in the light of day,” it says. Yep, that’s Matt Murdock, alright. This weekend brought us a much improved Iron Fist and the first footage of Daredevil Season Three! While you really should give Iron Fist a shot, the post-credits scene is already on YouTube if you want to see it. For the time being, anyway. He’s even got the mask on. Daredevil is still my second-favorite MCU show. (Jessica Jones takes number one.) As curious as I was to see how Iron Fist changed, this is still the season I’m looking forward to most this year. I can’t wait to see more from the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. I only wish we knew when that was going to happen. Maybe we’ll find out when Daredevil has its panel at New York Comic Con during the first weekend of October.
