From staff reports El Segundo senior goalie Matt Kubeck established a new CIF Southern Section boys water polo record in saves at the Ayala Tournament on Saturday. Kubeck made 54 saves during the tournament, which included El Segundo’s 11-7 victory over Walnut and an 8-7 loss to Temple City in a semifinal. Kubeck increased his career total to 1,107 saves, breaking the record of 1,053 set by Crespi’s Ryan Smith from 1999-2002. Bo Blacksten scored seven goals and Jake Mark added four goals for El Segundo (4-1), which won the third-place game. Torrance 17, California 3; Torrance 10, San Marino 8: Ryan McDonald scored 12 goals to lead Torrance (4-1) in the Bell Gardens Tournament. Cerritos 8, Peninsula 5, Peninsula 14, Norco 9, Peninsula 4, Brea 3: Nick Shariat combined for seven goals and Cameron Virjee combined for five to lead Peninsula to a fifth-place finish at the Weisz Tournament at El Dorado. Santa Barbara 7, Mira Costa 6: Todd Burns scored two goals in a nonleague loss to host Santa Barbara. Matt Burton added a goal for Mira Costa (0-1). Redondo 13, Los Amigos 9; Long Beach Poly 6, Redondo 5; Redondo 11, Los Altos 10: Ryan Vint scored 15 goals and Garrett Smith had 30 saves for Redondo in its three pool-play matches. Girls volleyball Redondo defeated La Ca ada, 25-8, 25-12, 25-15, in a quarterfinal match at the Gahr Tournament and will play Long Beach Poly on Monday in the semifinals at Gahr. Redondo (3-0) defeated Brentwood, 25-6, 25-12, 25-19, in pool play. Megan Saraceno combined for 16 kills and 13 digs for Redondo. West Torrance def. Valley Christian, 25-21, 25-9, 22-25, 25-22; def. Gahr, 25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21: Laura Day combined for 24 kills and Tara O’Brien combined for 21 kills to lead West (2-1) to a pair of victories at the Gahr Tournament. Charlene Ronne had 19 assists against Valley Christian and Megan Cunningham had 26 assists against Gahr. North Torrance def. Notre Dame Academy, 20-25, 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 15-9; lost to Long Beach Poly, 19-25, 16-25, 25-17, 15-25: Illyanna Hernandez combined for 29 kills and 27 digs, Kristen McNeese combined for 26 kills and Karin Ng combined for 81 assists to lead North (2-1) at the Gahr Tournament. Cross country North Torrance senior Josh Song took 20th place at the Long Beach Invitational at Heartwell Park with a time of 16 minutes, 22 seconds. Senior Matt Lewis finished 22nd with a time of 16:30. Junior David Archila finished 14th in 16:30 in the junior division race. 8-man football Tony Greer rushed six times for 110 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead host Rolling Hills Prep (2-0) to a 60-38 nonleague victory over Upland Christian.
