HMD Global started off the month on a disappointing note as the company had to cancel its July 11 launch of the Nokia X5 aka Nokia 5.1 Plus in China due to some issue with the venue. The company is now widely expected to announce the global availability of the Nokia X6, which is tipped to be called Nokia 6.1 Plus, on July 19 in Hong Kong, if all goes well that is. The Nokia X6 has been one of the most popular phones from the company this year and it now looks almost certain that it is ready for its global launch as it recently popped up on Geekbench. The Nokia X6 was initially launched for the Chinese market only, but after seeing some very positive response from the fans, HMD chief Juho Sarvikas announced that the handset will be available globally as well. The phone is expected to be called the Nokia 6.1 Plus outside of China, and while HMD has not yet confirmed that the device will be the one unveiled in Hong Kong on July 19, a new Geekbench listing suggests its imminent launch. The listing not only confirms its name, but also specifications that are similar to the Nokia X6 including a Snapdragon 636 chipset, Android 8.1 Oreo and 4GB of RAM, among other things. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is expected to look and pack mostly the same hardware as the Nokia X6. The only difference you can expect is that unlike the Nokia X6 which comes with a custom Chinese skin over Android Oreo, the Nokia 6.1 Plus will be an Android One device with pure, stock Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.advertisementThe reason behind the Nokia X6’s popularity is because it is the first Nokia phone to sport a notch, allowing for an edge-to-edge display with minimal bezels. The device also sees glass on the front and back as well as a dual rear camera setup. All of this makes for a very premium-looking Nokia handset that will sit in the affordable mid-range segment. There is no official word on whether the Nokia 6.1 Plus will make it to the Indian market, but considering a very strong Nokia user base in the country, we should hear something on it soon enough. The Nokia X6 brings a 5.8-inch FHD+ (1080×2280) TFT display and comes with a 19:9 aspect ratio with over 85 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The Nokia X6 also comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage option with support for expandability up to 256GB via microSD card. Apart from a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, the phone also supports face recognition. The dual-SIM Nokia X6 houses a 3,060mAh battery with support for fast charging and also supports Bluetooth 5.0, 4G VoLTE and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac..In terms of optics, the Nokia X6 brings a dual rear camera setup which includes a primary 16-megapixel sensor and a secondary 5-megapixel sensor, which definitely looks more attractive compared to the Nokia 6.1 which comes with a single rear camera. Up front, you get a 16-megapixel sensor. The cameras get some AI support as well which helps improve image quality and bokeh effect. The Nokia X6 has been priced in China starting at starting at CNY 1299 (approx Rs 13,800) for the 4G + 32GB variant, CNY 1499 (approx Rs 16,000) for the 4GB + 64GB model, and CNY 1699 (approx Rs 18,000) for the 6GB + 64GB version. If the phone does come to India, you can expect the Nokia 6.1 Plus to slot somewhere between the Rs 16,999 Nokia 6.1 and the Rs 25,999 Nokia 7 Plus.
